The United Nations 72 General Assembly adopted a Resolution 272 which approved the World Bicycle day to be hosted 3rd of June every year. The resolution stated that “Acknowledging the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation, fostering environmental stewardship and health” governments at all levels should provide leadership and mobilize stakeholders to mark the day with a view to making cycling a sustainable mode of transport in cities across the world. Consequently, the day was marked in Nigeria on the 4th and 5th June, 2018 with cycling rallies and advocacy visits in Abuja and at least 212 other cities in Nigeria.
